Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
Okay, so I went pretty general on this one. Mostly because I love these books so much that I REALLY want to write post about them, because HELLO they deserve it. Also, my Top Ten are all series because I can’t pick only one book out of the whole bushel. That’s not to say I don’t love my stand-alone, I do have so very many that I LOVE! I just feel more connected to characters when I’m with them for longer–our friendships have more time to bloom into something lasting, so that when I reopen their stories’ pages I feel as if I’m home.
AND, know that though I do know how to count, I simply can’t cut any of these from my list;)
The Mortal Instruments/
The Infernal Devices
Okay, honesty moment: so when people ask me what these books are about and I try to describe them, it ends up sounding like books they wouldn’t particularly want to read
because I suck. But don’t let my lack of convincing description deter you! Let my COMPLETE FANGIRL STATUS raaaaving about these books be enough for you to pop them open, because these are right up there with Harry Potter in how much I love them. (As close to Harry Potter as any series can get;))
The Iron Fey
You know, I never knew I could love faeries so much, but these books are soooooo AMAZING! I was in Walmart after a closing shift at work, and, like always, I went to go look through the books. I saw the first two books in this series, read the back of the first and thought, I’m going to try these out, they sound especially cool. Boy was I right! I mean, Puck and Ash? I LOVE THEM. I love Ash but Puck is SO funny! Meghan can have the one and I can have the other, yeah?;) Oh, and then there’s Grim the cait sith and you just HAVE to read these books!
You want some swoon-worthy books? Try these on for size!;) Really though, Richelle Mead does vampires right! People always ask me which books I like better, VA or Bloodlines? And I can never give an answer to one or the other, because I love them BOTH.
Can we just take a moment to stare at the utter gorgeousness that is these covers?
And to think, the stunning quality of these covers have nothing on the beautiful, flowing prose with which Tahereh delivers these stories. Her style is one of a kind and I LOVE it! Also, the MC has wicked awesome kill-with-a-single-touch powers, so you get some pret-ty cool sci-fi along with the dystopian.
I was hooked on Divergent from the very first moment. I had it on my TBR and I was off at college when I got a birthday package from my friends, where inside I found my very own copy of Divergent (also, a fully prepared and frosted chocolate cake)!
The Hunger Games
The Christmas after Mockingjay was released, one of my friends gifted me the box set of these three booklings. I mean, I’d heard about this book called The Hunger Games, but I had no clue what it was about (embarrassing). So I started with the first and ended up on a two-day book binge where I completely devoured them. My friend and I found some pretty awesome fan fiction that helped us to cope with a particular loss at the end of Mockingjay, and I don’t read fan fiction for just any book;)
The Lunar Chronicles
I only JUST started this series in, oh, January? And it’s entirely my own fault! I’ve seen Cinder on shelves since its publication, but for some reason
I’m dumb I didn’t think it would be my kind of read. Um, WRONG YOU WERE, DANICA, wrong you were. Because these books are SO so so amazing.
Throne of Glass
I can’t even describe to you how much I love this series. I BLEEPING LOVE THESE BOOKS!!!! I mean, Celaena is THE most wicked cool assassin. AND there’s MAGIC.
ZOOOOMBIEEEEEESSS!!!!! Let me tell ya, I LOVE me some zombies–they never fail to entertain. But these books? Tops ALL other zombi-fied books I’ve read. Also, I was a blubbering mess upon finishing it. Soo there’s some enticement for you;)
You guys. I just . . . as new as this book is, I bloodydamn LOVE IT! It’s the only singular book that made it on my list, so that tells you its status with me. Don’t get me wrong, it is part of a series, BUT it’s the first and only one out yet, so I haven’t had as much time with Darrow as I usually have with my favorite books’ characters. A new and lasting favorite, for sure;)
Just like how I eat my food, with this list I saved the best for last. I have my third grade teacher to thank for reading Sorcerer’s Stone aloud to our class. From that first page, I delved straight into Harry Potter and it was more than just another book–so much more. This story is my childhood, I lived it right alongside Harry, Ron and Hermione. I’m still living it with them, after all this time.
